What our apps can see, and what they cannot

addly apps are published on the Canva Marketplace and run inside Canva's app platform. That platform decides what an app may touch, and it is narrower than people expect. Here is the whole picture, without a trust-center detour.

Independent company, published on the Canva Marketplace. Not affiliated with Canva.

The permissions we ask for

Canva shows you this list once, at install. There are four items on it, and each one exists because something in the app would not work without it.

  • Read the current design

The page or element you selected

The app needs to see what it is working on: the text of the slide it is translating, the numbers in the table it is charting, the clip it is captioning. It reads the current design, not your other designs and not your folders.

  • Write to the current design

Put the result back where you are working

Charts, captions, mockups and codes are added as native Canva elements on the page you are on. The app never deletes a page or replaces a design you did not ask it to touch.

  • Read your brand kit

Fonts, colors and logos you already configured

This is what makes the output look like your brand instead of a default template. We read the brand kit; we never modify it, and we do not copy it onto our servers.

  • Your account identity

A stable identifier, so we know your plan

Canva gives us an opaque user identifier, and your email if you start a trial. That is how an app knows whether you are on Free or Pro. We do not receive your Canva password, and we cannot sign in as you.

What we never ask for

If a Canva app ever asks you for any of these, that is worth a second look — ours cannot, because the platform does not grant it.

  • Access to your other designs, your folders or your team's library
  • Permission to publish, share or export on your behalf
  • Your Canva password, or any credential that would let us sign in as you
  • Admin rights on your Canva organization
  • Your contacts, your calendar, or anything outside Canva

What runs where

Most of the work happens in the browser tab you already have open. Some of it cannot: transcription, translation and photorealistic rendering need more compute than a tab has. We split it honestly.

In your browser

Nothing in this column leaves your machine.

  • Reading the selected page and your brand kit
  • Chart layout, styling and redraw
  • QR code generation, including the styled variants
  • Font activation and pairing previews
  • Everything you see in the panel before you press a button

On our servers, in the EU

Sent over TLS, processed, returned, then deleted.

  • Audio transcription for Magic Captions
  • Machine translation for Translate Pro
  • Photorealistic rendering for Mockup Pro
  • Scan counts for trackable QR codes
  • Subscription state and billing, through Stripe

What happens to what you send us

  • Processed, then deleted

Design content sent for transcription, translation or rendering is deleted once the result is returned — within 24 hours at the latest, including from our backups queue. We keep no copy to improve a model.

  • Not used to train anything

Your designs are not training data. Where an app uses a machine learning model, it is a vendor model called with your content and a no-retention agreement, or a model running on our own infrastructure.

  • Hosted in the European Union

Our application servers and database are in the EU. Stripe handles payment data under its own compliance; card numbers never touch our infrastructure.

  • Yours to take back

The output lives in your Canva account, not in ours. Delete your addly account and the designs you made are unaffected — there is nothing to export, because we were never holding it.

Which Canva plans our apps support

Canva's app platform is available on every plan, so our apps are too. What differs is what your own Canva plan lets you do with the result.

Canva planaddly appsWorth knowing
Canva FreeFully supportedBrand kit features need a brand kit, which Canva Free does not include. Everything else works.
Canva ProFully supportedThe combination we build against: brand kit, resize and premium content all available.
Canva TeamsFully supportedShared brand kits are read correctly. Each person still needs their own addly Pro subscription.
Canva for EducationFully supportedSome school accounts restrict third-party apps. If our app is missing from your panel, that restriction is why.
Canva EnterpriseSupported, with an approval stepYour Canva administrator allows the app once for the organization. Nothing else is asked of them.

Canva, the Canva logo and Canva plan names belong to Canva. We reference them to describe where our apps run.

We are not Canva

addly is a French company that builds and sells apps on the Canva Marketplace. We are not affiliated with Canva, we do not speak for Canva, and your addly subscription is separate from your Canva subscription — two companies, two charges, two support channels. If something looks like it is coming from Canva and it is one of our apps, we have made a mistake and we want to hear about it.
